Managing time is something we all struggle with everyday. How can I be more productive? How can I achieve more? How can I focus and get the things done that I need to? These are just some of the questions that come to mind. Working on managing your time better is vital to living better. Here are a few tips to get started:

Number One: Make lists of things to do and prioritize the items in that list. It sounds like an obvious and trivial thing to do, but it is vital to making better use of your time. One you understand what you need to do, and what are the priorities, you can start to understand better how to use your time.

Number Two: Track everything you do for one day to several days. This takes a lot of effort and is something that you need to really focus on to complete. But if you manage to do it, you will gain great insight into where your time is going. Understanding this, will help you to figure out what to eliminate to help you work and live better. When you are done, return to Number One and see what changes you should make.

Number Three: Focus on One Thing: Today's world is full of interruptions and diversions which result in unfocused energy. To manage your time better you need to close off distractions (close the phone, the email, Facebook, Twitter etc...) and focus on one task and complete it. It is a myth that we can "multitask" - research shows that we cannot and most of us become horrible workers when we try. Focus on one thing and you will accomplish more and have more time.

Number Four: Work hardest when you are at your best. We all have a time of the day when we work the best. Don't be afraid to schedule your work around this work time sweet-spot and use it to your advantage. If you need to adjust your work hours around this time, then do it. Have a discussion with your boss and let them know that you would like to arrange your work day around the most productive time for you. You might be pleasantly surprised that they are more than happy to accommodate you, especially if it means you will work more!

Number Five: Leave time to rest, relax and have fun. If you are to be more productive and use your time better, you must have sufficient rest, you must be living well, and you must be happy. All work and no play, does make Jane an unproductive person. Remember Number Three? Being rested and happy helps you to focus better.
